The Case Of Jonathan Wayne Nobles - 1213 Words
Judgement can be a complicated and uncomfortable process underpinned by tremendous responsibility. This process must produce a judgement that balances all relevant aspects of the case like the circumstances of the crime and the perpetrator, the crime itself, and many additional factors including the potential for the rehabilitation of the perpetrator in order to attain a semblance of justice. Obviously, this is no easy task; as the unfortunate case of Jonathan Wayne Nobles illustrates, it often proves impossible. On the night of September 13, 1986, Jonathan Wayne Nobles, 25, while under the influence of alcohol, speed, marihuana, and cocaine, broke in to an Austin Texas residence wielding a large knife. Furthermore, Nobles was happy to minister to his fellow inmates; he even stood as godfather at convict Cliff Boggussââ¬â¢s baptism and helped to officiate at the mass that was celebrated the night before Boggussââ¬â¢ execution (Earle 75). Given these facts, it is evident Noblesââ¬â¢ active devotion was heartfelt. Needless to say, Nobles strived to inspire others with the word of God. After becoming a member, ââ¬Å"for eight years Jonathan was a spiritual leader on death row bringing the Good News to those who themselves faced the same sentenceâ⬠(Roche). His late found faith seems to have gave him the power to love his fellow men more than ever. Clearly, faith pushed Nobles to be a better more loving human, eager to help those around him. They say action speaks louder than words and it is Jonathan Noblesââ¬â¢ benevolent actions that give the most credence to his rehabilitation.
